iryo, the first private Spanish high-speed operator, starts operations in the second half of 2022 with an initial fleet of 20 new state-of-the-art trains. The company, owned by Trenitalia and the partners of the airline Air Nostrum, operates most of the Spanish high-speed routes, connecting Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Malaga, Cordoba, Valencia, Alicante, Cuenca, and Zaragoza.

It will operate 30% of the High-Speed journeys, including 32 daily journeys between Madrid and Barcelona, in order to transport 8 million passengers a year, with a potential market of 30 million.

iryo has made an investment of 1,000 million euros and will create around 2,600 jobs in Spain, between direct and indirect jobs.

iryo was born with a commitment to and a proposal of added and differential value based on innovation, sustainability, and multimodality with the aim of establishing a new standard of what it means to travel High-Speed in Spain.

The start of operations of iryo is a turning point in the rail transport sector in Spain, allowing our country to position itself as a European leader in knowhow, not only in manufacturing but also in operations, with a new profile of integrated mobility railway companies.
