Main products and services

Talgo is a Spanish company that is internationally renowned in high-speed and long-distance rail.

Trains: Very high-speed (Talgo Avril, Talgo 350), high-speed (Talgo 250, Talgo 250 Dual), Intercity (Talgo 230), Commuter & Regional (Talgo Vittal, Vittal ONE) and locomotives.

Maintenance Equipment: Talgo supplies maintenance equipment to operators around the world, with three main product categories: underfloor wheel lathes to re-shape the wheels without having to disassemble the bogies, measurement equipment to analyse wheel imperfections, and Talgo shunting cars designed to move trains in a simple and effective manner. Talgo also develops advanced maintenance engineering solutions, based on the extensive use of digitization, big data, and machine learning.

Smart Maintenance Engineering: Talgo develops advanced digital platforms to support mobility solutions in the rail sector, based on new Industry 4.0 technologies and making extensive use of technologies such as: IoT, Machine and Deep Learning, Big Data Cloud Computing, digital twins, artificial vision, and augmented reality, to optimise the operating capacity of transport systems and maximise the availability, reliability, and operating safety of the train fleet. To that end, it has developed a digital platform called Tsmart© for real-time monitoring and predictive maintenance based on artificial intelligence, as well as the Talvi© platform for automatic train inspection based on artificial vision.

Maintenance services: Talgo provides comprehensive maintenance services and vehicle refurbishment, both for the vehicles it manufactures and for 3rd-party rolling stock.

Activities by year

Activities in 2024:

Talgo continued to consolidate its international presence with new contracts abroad, with the entering into service of Avril (Renfe Series 106), which is the world’s first variable-gauge, high-speed train. The company is also deploying a new range of digital platforms for optimising the operating capacity of transport systems and maximising the availability, reliability, and operating safety of the train fleet.

The following projects stand out:

Avril Renfe (Spain). The Talgo Avril model has an innovative 3+2 internal distribution to increase capacity without reducing passenger comfort. Half of these trains also mount an automatic track-gauge changing system for very high-speed (300 km/h), for the first time in history. The train is already in service.

Avril Adif (Spain). Spain rail infrastructure manager Adif commissioned Talgo to supply a train made up of two dual-voltage power heads and six variable-gauge coaches, with 8,000 kW of power and a top speed of 330 km/h. The order includes the train, as well as its comprehensive maintenance for 5 years, and equipping it with high-technology dynamic monitoring and control instruments.

Talgo 230 Deutsche Bahn (Germany). In 2019 Talgo signed a contract with Deutsche Bahn to manufacture up to 100 Talgo 230 intercity trains, with an initial order for 23 units that are currently being manufactured, and a second order for another 56 units that was awarded in May 2023. DB will use these units, which include locomotives and cab-cars, and have a maximum speed of 230 km/h, in domestic and international long-distance routes, thereby connecting the German capital, Berlin, with that of the Netherlands (Amsterdam).

Talgo 230 DSB (Denmark). Danish operator DSB has awarded Talgo a contract to supply a batch of 16 Talgo 230 intercity trains, which form part of a more extensive framework contract. These wide-body trains will have a passenger capacity of 440 and a maximum speed of 200 km/h, and will include cab-cars as the DB units.

Intercity ENR (Egypt). After signing a contract in 2019, Talgo has already delivered to the Egyptian operator ENR 6 trains, each composed of a locomotive and 14 cars, and will be in charge of their maintenance for 8 years. At the same time, ENR has awarded Talgo the manufacturing of seven night trains.

Talgo 230 Flix (Germany). On 27th May 2025, Germany-based transport giant Flix awarded Talgo a c.€2.4 billion contract for the supply of up to 65 European high-speed trains based upon the Talgo 230 product platform, with an initial firm order of 30 units worth near €1,060 million. The push-pull trains will boast full accessibility at platform level and a high level of systems digitisation. The contract also includes the maintenance of all units during a 15-year period. The trains are designed to be operated across Europe, initially prepared for Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Sweden, with full interoperability allowing seamless cross-border operations.

Innovations

Talgo is currently focusing its innovation activity on a four-pillar approach: digitalization, sustainable mobility, optimization of passenger experience, and innovation enhancement.

Within each line, the company has been working on key projects which show our deep commitment to improving the future of the railway sector. In this regard, it has developed a digital platform called Tsmart© © for real-time monitoring and predictive maintenance based on artificial intelligence, as well as the Talvi© platform for automatic train inspection based on artificial vision.

These platforms are based on new Industry 4.0 technologies such as: IoT, Machine and Deep Learning, Big Data Cloud Computing, digital twins, artificial vision, and augmented reality, to optimise the operating capacity of transport systems and maximise the availability, reliability, and operating safety of the train fleet. The application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques and Machine Learning to predictive maintenance operations and the development of a smart maintenance platform are among the latest advancements performed by our company towards digitalization.

As for sustainable mobility, Talgo’s contribution consists in the development and manufacture of a new dual train Vittal ONE with a Hydrogen fuel cell, intended to further reduce the minimal negative environmental impact produced by the railway, connecting places in an environmentally sustainable way.

Another line of investigation and projects in course are centred on continuous passenger experience improvement, based on better accessibility, higher levels of comfort and safety, customized travel experiences, and personalisation.

In pursuit of these strategic objectives, Talgo is working closely with different start-ups. This enables a reduction in time and costs, as well as promoting agile innovation, connecting the company with the latest technological developments of the market and pushing forward our own innovation.
