In 2006 the company embarked upon its international expansion into South America and Eastern Europe. In 2007 the company moved boldly into the water treatment business by acquiring 55% of Passavant España (today PESA Medioambiente), a subsidiary of the world number one in the sector. In 2012 COPASA became the leading private company in the largest international civil works contract ever won by a Spanish consortium, the Arabian Mecca-Medina HSL, which involved building three factories in the desert. COPASA continues to be oriented towards railway projects but, as an example of its strong diversification, in 2016 the company entered into a consortium with RENFE to manage the transport and treatment of all waste generated in Galicia. Today COPASA operates in 16 countries around the world, the most recent additions being United States, Mexico y Colombia.
