Fundacion de los Ferrocarriles Españoles is an organization of state public sector, whose founding trustees are Renfe Operadora and Administrador de Infraestructuras Ferroviarias, ADIF. Fundacion was established in 1985 in order to promote transport by rail.
The purposes of Fundacion:
Promote awareness and use of rail transport
Promote research on the railway and land transport.
Promote training on the railway
Investigate and disseminate socio-economic and environmental benefits of rail transport.
Ensure the identification, conservation, restoration, extension and exhibition of cultural heritage of the Spanish railways of Adif and Renfe
Dissemination of social, economic and cultural role of railways in the past and in the future, with printed, electronic and audiovisual.
Research and dissemination of economic and environmental benefits of rail transport.
To fulfill its goals, Fundacion carries out the following activities:
Organize courses, seminars, meetings and other training or educational activities related to the whole rail system or its subsystems.
Perform research and studies, especially in areas such as railway operations; geographical and rail traffic, energy consumption and emissions.
Manage Madrid-Delicias and Catalonia-Vilanova Railway Museums
Developing the plan for identification, protection and dissemination of historical and cultural railway heritage.
Preserving and enriching the funds of Historical Archives of the Spanish Railways, and Newspaper Library, making it accessible to the public.
Maintain and enhance the railway museum funds and promoting public display.
To this end, Fundacion will promote the necessary agreements with institutions and companies to ensure the best presence and distribution of funds.
Promote the research of railway history
Promote the research and study of the economics of transport in general and in particular the research, development, innovation and studies on the railway in its political, economic and social environment.
Edit and disseminate printed and electronic journal "Via Libre", maintaining its informative and divulging character on the railroad, according to the aims of the Foundation and any other publication that is considered relevant for the purposes of the Foundation.
Edit and publish national and international railway documentation deemed of interest and books or brochures that can relate to the objectives and purposes of the Foundation.
Organizing cultural activities related to the railway such as literature prizes, Photographic competitions and exhibitions, among others.
Awarding scholarship and grants for training and researching related with railways.
Organizing and supporting meetings, courses, seminars, conferences and events about the railway. The Foundation collaborates and helps other entities or persons to attend these activities organized by other institutions in Spain and abroad.
