In this context, at the Spanish Railways Foundation
we feel deeply aligned with this vision. As a public institution
with more than four decades of experience, our mission is to
strengthen the role of the railway from all possible angles:
knowledge, training, innovation, heritage and culture.
Within this wide range of actions, the Railway Year-
book occupies a very special place. This publication, which
the Spanish Railways Foundation coordinates and publishes
with enormous dedication, has established itself as a land-
mark publication for the entire railway ecosystem. Year after
year, the yearbook brings together expert voices, reliable sta-
tistics and strategic reflections that allow us to take the pulse
of the sector’s evolution. It is a meeting point for operators,
administrations, industry, academia and citizens. Participa-
ting in its preparation is, for the Foundation, an act of com-
mitment, rigour and public service.
The diversity of our organisation’s actions corres-
ponds to the same vision: the railway has enormous poten-
tial to build a more sustainable, fairer and better connected
José Ramón Sempere Vera country. Spain has the necessary talent, infrastructures and
Director Gerente de institutional commitment to make the train the axis of a new
la Fundación de los Ferrocarriles Españoles mobility model.
The future is built with courageous decisions, sha-
red vision and collaboration among all the sector’s players.
At the Foundation, we are prepared to continue adding va-
lue, based on the technical neutrality and vocation for public
service that characterises us.
This year we should look ambitiously at the future
of the railway. A future in which the train is not only a means
of transport, but a tool for social, territorial and environmen-
tal transformation. And that future, I am convinced, has al-
ready arrived.
range of services, competitive prices and a balanced increa-
se in passengers.
In addition, the Spanish railway is gaining promi-
nence in the field of sustainability. In a global context that
demands efficient and clean solutions, the train is positioned
as the mode of transport with the lowest environmental im-
pact. Both European and national public strategies recognise
it as a fundamental pillar for achieving our climate objec-
tives. And citizens, who are becoming increasingly aware,
respond by choosing the train as a safe, comfortable and
sustainable alternative.
